for optimism, the Giants responded to that 62-100 campaign with five consecutive winning seasons in the following years. That would be a welcome sight for this Giants squad, given that it’s been a decade since they posted even two straight winning seasons.
After Monday’s walk-off victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, the Giants are 60-85. They need to win just three of their final 17 contests to avoid the second 100-loss campaign in San Francisco history. Even for the Giants, that seems very doable, though it’s worth noting that six of those games are against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the other 11 are against teams in the playoff race.
Still, the quest for a loss total in the 90s is not only on, but achievable, and the Giants are even in pole position. Sometimes you just have to aim low.
