Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano is a superb defender.
The centre-back has been one of France’s standout performers in the FIFA World Cup thus far. It is incredibly difficult to stand out with your performances in this star-studded French team, but Upamecano’s performances have eclipsed even those of his partner in crime, William Saliba. Anchoring the defence and emerging as France’s leader in the backline, Upamecano has helped France make it to the semi-finals.
What a year this could be for the Frenchman.
And now the icing on the cake – former Germany centre-back Mats Hummels, who some consider to be a legend of both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (and one of the greatest CBs ever), seems to be a fan of Upamecano, whom he has faced multiple times while plying his trade for Dortmund.
The World Cup winner was ecstatic after receiving Upamecano’s jersey after the France-Morocco game, sharing the photo to his Instagram (@aussenrist15), which was captured by @iMiaSanMia. He captioned the photo with “@upamecano What a defender (raising hands emoji)”.
I don’t blame him. My reaction would be 100x stronger if I received an Upamecano game jersey.
From a legend to a future legend. Wonderful moment.
All that now remains to be seen is if Upamecano can complete this moment by powering France to their second World Cup trophy in 8 years. That would cement his name among France and International football’s immortals.
UPAMECANOOOOOOOO, UPAMECANOOOOOOOO, UPAMECANOOOOOOOO, C’EST UPAMECANOOOOOOOO DAYOT!
