With training camp taking off this week for the Dallas Cowboys, things are about to become much more physical at practice now that the pads are about to start popping. There are rules in place teams have to abide by to hopefully prevent injuries from happening, but we all know nothing is guaranteed. Everyone is good to go right now according to Jane Slater, but to stay that way Dallas may want to monitor certain players closely.
LB DeMarvion Overshown
Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Overshown is the projected starter at the MIKE LB position right now. While he’s shown glimpses of his game-changing ability to become one of the better off-ball LBs in the entire league, he’s also shown an inability to stay healthy in his first three seasons with the Cowboys after sustaining two separate season-ending knee injuries. In order for him to stay healthy this season, monitoring him closely might be a wise thing to do.
CB DaRon Bland
After foot surgery to the same foot in back-to-back offseasons, the Cowboys should definitely be cautious with the way they utilize Bland in training camp. He’s the most seasoned and proven corner they currently have on the roster and is expected to be a key contributor on the back end of Dallas’ secondary this year. That, of course, all depends on how he rebounds from yet another foot surgery and whether or not he can remain healthy for the entire season.
OLB Donovan Ezeiruaku
Ezeiruaku is coming off a solid rookie season where he showed glimpses of his pass-rushing ability, but sustained a torn labrum injury that required offseason surgery. He is still currently working his way back, but is expected to be a full participant in training camp after missing all of the voluntary and mandatory OTA practices. He’s someone Dallas should be cautious with to ensure he’s all the way back from his injury considering he’s a projected starter this year.
CB Shavon Revel
Revel was considered a first-round talent, but was drafted in the third round by the Cowboys last year after he sustained a season-ending knee injury in his final collegiate season. He never quite looked completely healthy in his rookie year, playing with the knee brace, but moved around much more smoothly in OTAs not long ago. Dallas may want to monitor him closely to prevent any setbacks, especially considering he could be a potential starter this year.
