Per Pete Thamel of ESPN, San Diego State’s Rob Aurich has agreed to a 3-year deal for Aurich to take over as Defensive Coordinator for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He will replace John Butler whose release
was announced last Monday following a 40-16 loss to Iowa. Butler and Donovan Raiola are the only coaching staff changes confirmed so far.
Aurich’s Aztec defense was 7th nationally in total defense (yardage) and 5th in scoring defense in 2025. The Aztecs were 9-3 and finished in a 4-way tie for first in the Mountain West and allowed the fewest points (112) by a wide margin (50). Aurich was hired as the Aztec’s Edge Coach in 2024. He previously coached at Idaho in 2022 and ‘23 and at South Dakota prior to that for four years where he served as Special Teams Coordinator and Inside Linebackers coach. He played his college football at Minnesota-Duluth.
