Bayern Munich managed to escape Parc des Princes in France with a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain, keeping Die Roten’s winning streak alive and extending it to 16 wins in the process. Luis Díaz scored both of Bayern’s goals, but was controversially sent off deep in the last minutes of the first half. PSG would get one goal back, but the Rekordmeister defended like their lives depended on it and eventually grinded out the win.
Jersey Swap: João Neves
PSG was deadly for the most part of the match, but they couldn’t really
offer up anything against a resolute Bayern side. When João Neves came on, he at least got the hosts a goal and was a visible upgrade on Fabián Ruiz.
Der Kaiser: Dayot Upamecano
Literally any one of Bayern’s defenders could’ve gotten this award. Dayot gets this one, however. And Bayern, better give that man a contract extension right now. The Frenchman has been massive at the back and did everything he could to protect Bayern’s goal. Admittedly, there wasn’t much he could do on PSG’s goal as he was marking two players, but it was still a great performance from the 27-year-old.
Der Fußballgott: No one
Bayern’s midfield was mostly quiet, like efficiently quiet. Got the job done, minimum fuss. Neither Joshua Kimmich nor Aleksandar Pavlović were standout.
Der Bomber: Luis Díaz
Despite being wrongfully sent off late into the first half, let’s not forget that Luis Díaz scored both of Bayern’s goals. Throw in an elite performance from Manuel Neuer as well and Bayern got the win in the end. During the time he was on the pitch, Díaz played like a madman and got two goals to reward himself. He acted as a poacher for the first goal, was clinical on his second, and ran tirelessly up and down the pitch.
Meister of the Match: Manuel Neuer
Interestingly, this was a toss-up between Díaz (who scored both of Bayern’s goals) and Manuel Neuer who kept the score down. Given that Neuer made it to the end of the match and kept PSG at bay, the award goes to Manu. The 39-year-old put in an exceptional performance and made numerous saves to limit PSG to just one measly goal. Yes, Bayern could’ve scored at least five goals on the night, but the same goes for PSG. The Parisians had nine shots on goal, and Neuer saved eight of them and a few more.
