After defeating the Indiana Fever in a 107-104 victory on the road, the Dallas Wings return for the home-opener on Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream. Tipoff from College Park Center is at 7 p.m.
Although Atlanta and Dallas both have a 1-0 record, the two teams are coming off very different 2025 campaigns.
Last season, Atlanta earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 30-14 regular-season record while Dallas finished last in the Western Conference with a 10-34 regular-season record.
Atlanta
played in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs, losing in three games to the Fever. Dallas prepared for the WNBA Draft, receiving the number one pick.
Despite different seasons, both teams decided to improve its front court in the offseason.
Dallas signed 2025 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Alanna Smith to a three-year contract and Jessica Shepard to a two-year deal.
Last season, Alanna Smith averaged 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while Shepard averaged eight points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Against the Fever on Saturday, Shepard finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and two steals while Smith had six points, three rebounds, two steals and a block.
Atlanta upgraded its frontcourt by trading for Angel Reese.
The Dream sent a first-round pick in 2027 and 2028 along with second-round swap rights in 2028 to the Chicago Sky for the two-time WNBA All-Star. Last season, Reese averaged 12.6 rebounds per game, leading the league in rebounds per game. Along with her rebounds, Reese averaged 14.7 points, 1.5 steals and 3.7 assists.
Against the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday, Reese recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. She also blocked a shot at the buzzer to seal the 91-90 victory for Atlanta.
Reese was brought in to an established playoff team that retained its core after a breakout season in 2025 and hopes to move deeper into the playoffs.
Shepard and Smith were brought to a team that wants to compete in the playoffs after back-to-back number one overall selections in the WNBA Draft. Shepard and Smith will face Reese as both teams try to improve to 2-0.
The game against the Dream provides the Wings an opportunity to demonstrate its new look front court under first-year coach Jose Fernandez as Dallas tries to improve from its poor season last year. Many fans will also be watching to see if Azzi Fudd, the No. 1 overall pick from last month, can take another step in getting acclimated to the professional game. She scored three points on 1-of-3 shooting in 17 minutes on Saturday in her WNBA debut.
