The New Orleans Saints have signed Texas Longhorns undrafted free agent place kicker Mason Shipley, adding competition for Charlie Smyth ahead of the team’s offseason program.
Shipley started his college career at Oklahoma State in 2020, though he did not see any playing time. He later transferred to Texas State, where he appeared in 38 games across three seasons from 2022 to 2024, converting 31 of 35 field goal attempts (88.6%) and 111 extra points. During his 2024 campaign, he went 15-of-19 on field goals
with a long of 60 yards, setting a program and Sun Belt Conference record, while earning a spot on the Lou Groza Award watch list. In 2023, he was named a Lou Groza Award semifinalist after going a perfect 15-for-15 on field goals, setting a school record and totaling 103 points.
He transferred to Texas in 2025 and appeared in 11 games as the team’s primary place kicker, converting 16 of 19 field goal attempts and going a perfect 40-for-40 on extra points. Across his career, he has appeared in 49 games and connected on 47 of 54 field goals (87.0%) while adding 151 made PATs.
