Lennart Karl burst onto the scene for some during the Club World Cup in 2025, with wicked speed and aggressiveness that caught the attention of everyone watching. It would be months later in the 2025/26 season, though, when the football world truly woke up to the German talent, but things haven’t gone quite as well so far this season.
Karl has now become the center of criticism in recent matches, with critiques such as “laziness” or “unmotivated” being swirled around in some circles. While his negative
body language isn’t doing him any favors, perhaps the criticism isn’t fully warranted. Coach Aaron Danks was quick to defend the young talent when asked about Karl’s development.
“I’ve been a coach for a long time and I’ve often worked with young players. What Lenny is experiencing right now is perfectly normal. At that age, it’s like a rollercoaster; it’s all ups and downs. We fully support him and push him. In the last two games, he worked incredibly hard—both defensively and offensively—and showed his quality. We stay calm and believe in him,” stated Danks, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
Just days after this quote, Karl already had a strong performance against Atletico Madrid and is trending back in the right direction. While Karl isn’t a guarantee to hit the massive expectations set for him, the future is certainly bright.
