The Chargers offensive line was not viewed highly following the first three weeks of the season as Pro Football Focus had the unit ranked 18th among all 32 starting groups. After the loss to the Seahawks and the loss of Rashawn Slater to a high ankle sprain, that view only got worse.
Here’s what PFF analyst Gordon McGuinness had to say about the Bolts in his latest set of offensive line rankings:
“The Chargers lost left tackle Rashawn Slater to an injury that is expected to keep him out 4-to-6 weeks,
meaning that Joe Alt will likely kick back over to left tackle this week as they take on the DenverBroncos — assuming Alt is healthy after leaving Sunday’s game with a neck injury himself. At one point during the loss to the Seattle Seahawks, right guard Cole Strange was the only starting offensive lineman still on the field in the same position in which he had started the season.”
It remains to be seen if Alt will be healthy enough to play this week, or if Trevor Penning will be cleared from the concussion protocol in time, as well. If both are not healthy enough this week, the Chargers will be forced to roll out the group that ended Sunday’s loss which included four rookies and right guard Cole Strange.
