After speculation that the Kansas City Chiefs may look to trade back in order to stay alive into Round 3 on Day 2, the team stayed put at pick No. 40 and completed a trio of top-50 rookies that headline the organization’s 2026 draft class.
The last of the three was edge rusher R Mason Thomas from Oklahoma, a surprising pick to some who had eyes on defensive ends Zion Young from Missouri or Gabe Jacas from Illinois, two powerful players that are easily visualized playing from a three-point stance and
holding the edge in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme.
Thomas represents a new look on the defensive front, one seeking more sacks in 2026 and beyond.
