What is the story about?
AEW hung out in San Diego’s Viejas Arena last night (July 1) to tape the episode of Collision that airs on Thursday due to the Independence Day holiday. The first Collision after Forbidden Door premieres on TNT and HBO Max tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern start.
Fitting coming out of last weekend’s PPV with Stardom, New Japan, and CMLL, on Wednesday’s live Dynamite AEW booked wrestlers from those company’s in Collision matches.
Here’s are SPOILERS from the taping courtesy of Wrestling Observer, and posts
on social media from fans in the 6-1-9:
- Death Riders’ Claudio Castagnoli and PAC def. Shingo Takagi and Drilla Moloney of NJPW’s Unbound Co. faction via pinfall (Castagnoli on Takagi)
- The Conglomerators conglomerated for a promo. Orange Cassidy said that Mark Briscoe would be out for a while after losing to MJF on this week’s Dynamite but Willow Nightingale will be back soon.
- In the same scene, Konosuke Takeshita hyped his match on against his old partner Kyle Fletcher on next week’s Dynamite.
- Andrade El Ídolo def. Brian Cage via pinfall after a DM, in a match that saw the musclebound Cage hit a 6-1-9. Andrade then cut a promo on Don Callis, wondering of course… how he know?
- Divine Dominion put out a call for more luchadoras to challenge them.
- Adam Copeland teamed with the Bang Bang Gang to defeat Shane Taylor Promotions. The Dogs crashed the party afterwards to lay the victors out. Christian Cage, who made it clear to Cope on Dynamite that he’s not cool with Bang Bang Gang leader Jay White, presumably was not present for any of this.
- Thunder Rosa and Mina Shirakawa def. Zara Zackher and Becca
- AEW Women’s World champion Thekla cut a promo in Starlight’s Kid mask (which she stole after beating Kid at Forbidden Door) proclaiming Stardom’s death following the Toxic Spider’s victory at Sunday’s PPV. She also briefly addressed the Casino Battle Royal that was announced last night for next Wednesday, which will produce her challenger for Redemption on July 26.
- Matt Sydal joins SkyFlight, so Scorpio Sky is still with AEW apparently.
- The Demand win over whoever they were “in action” against, then Ricochet cut a promo on Sydal an SkyFlight.
- Athena def. Stardom’s Rina, securing the opening spot in next Wednesday’s Casino Battle Royal
- Kyle Fletcher cut a promo on both New Japan’s El-P and Takeshita
- Bandido, Mistico, and Speedball Mike Bailey def. The Rascals, then both teams showed respect with a post-match handshake
- An Opps promo in which Hook tells Katsuyori Shibata he plans to take the ROH World title from Bandido.
- RUSH def. Jordan Cruz
- Another Divine Dominion promo wondering where all the women’s tag teams have gone/
- Maya World def. Julia Hart to earn the other starting spot in Wednesday’s Casino Gauntlet.
- Kyle Fletcher def. El-P in the main event.
Other than Tony Khan doing the Timecop and thanks bits, that’s the report. Sound like a good reason to check out Collision on a Thursday night, or whenever on the (U.S.) holiday weekend?
