A troubling setback for the Bayern Munich season occurred in today’s training as reports from Tz indicate that Manuel Neuer needed to receive treatment on the ground during a cooling break. While Neuer was able to continue training afterwards, the goalkeeper was observed making noticeable signs of struggle as he continued the practice.
What does this mean for Bayern fans? It doesn’t seem like a serious injury that will rule Neuer out for significant time, but it is something that will need to be monitored
as the season goes on. Neuer seemed to lose a bit of his reaction time towards the end of last season, and as the legendary goalkeeper ages, these sorts of issues will arise over time.
Hopefully, Neuer can overcome the shoulder pain, but this could further support the argument that there needs to be a more even split of playing time between Neuer and Jonas Urbig. While Neuer’s body is slowing down, he has shown moments of brilliance that he is still capable of, but just how consistently can he demonstrate it at this demanding of a schedule?
Perhaps joining Germany at the World Cup this summer was a missed opportunity for Neuer to get some much needed rest and recovery. Who can blame the guy for wanting to play though?
