In Saturday’s ACC Action, Virginia visits SMU, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech tangle, Georgia Tech drops in on the Wolfpack, Syracuse and BC play in Beantown, Miami jets up to Clemson, Wake Forest plays Florida State, Louisville stops off at the Zoo and Duke and UNC wrap up the Bay trip with Stanford and Cal respectively.
The reactions to UNC’s loss to Stanford continue to bounce around the Internet and UNC fans and alums are not happy with what they’ve seen.
PJ Hairston and friends are worried. Tyler
Hansbrough is concerned. Terrence Oglesby sees the problems.
Davis seems like a good man in many ways, but that’s a tough job and the pressure is building. Losing at Cal would not help.
Virginia and SMU is intriguing. The Cavaliers look like potentially the second best team in the league (Clemson and Miami still have a dog in that fight), and SMU has shown its worth. This one could be great.
Miami and Clemson should be a really fun game. Both teams defend hard and have great perimeter games but Malik Reneau and Shelton Henderson tip the balance in our eyes.
Notre Dame and Virginia Tech have both had some tough losses this year, but both have also shown a lot of fight, which could make this game really intense. The Hokies are still working Tobi Lawal back in and that could be an issue. They’ve had four OT games already including three against South Carolina, and while they’ve lost three of the last four, those losses were by a total of five points. We’ll take the Hokies.
Georgia Tech has shown flashes but NC State is deeper. State will have control Baye Ndongo and Mouhamed Sylla inside. Assuming they can at least break even there, State should win.
BC is struggling but Earl Grant’s teams always play hard and Syracuse does not. Donnie Freeman screams take Syracuse here.
Wake Forest should beat FSU, but the ‘Noles have shown a lot of heart so far, so you can’t rule that out. And neither team has a great presence inside, so there’s that. Wake will need other players than Juke Harris and Nate Calmese to step up.
Louisville has lost three of its last four, but in fairness to Pat Kelsey and company, the Cards have had some serious injury issues lately. Louisville fans have gotten kind of ugly about the losses, perhaps forgetting what an insanely great job Kelsey did last season. We’d counsel them to back off. If it’s a poor season, it won’t be as poor as what they got from Kenny Payne.
Bad news though: Mikel Brown (back), Khani Rooths (sick) and Spencer Legg (ankle, not joking) are all out for Pitt.
