Alabama’s offense decided to show up to the Rose Bowl about as lifelessly as they possibly could, scoring all of 0 points. The one time they started to put together a drive and got past mid field, Ty Simpson fumbled at the end of a nice run. Just a pathetic showing from the entire group overall, outside of the much maligned Ryan Williams, who did make one really impressive catch on a 3rd down while getting rocked.
The Tide defense at least showed up. They notched 3 sacks in the first half, but Indiana’s
consistent run game has slowly worn on them. Still, both touchdowns came off of short fields off of turnover – which has pretty much been the Tide’s M.O. for two months. The defense only gives up TDs on short fields. Problem is, the Alabama offense has been giving those to opponents 2-3 times per game. Indiana leads 17-0, and it doesn’t look like Alabama belongs on the same field unless they can figure out how to play offense with any semblance of competency. Or, like they have all season, hope the defense yet again scores some of their own points to bail them out.
Oh, and Ty Simpson looks like he messed up his ribs, too. So now the Tide will attempt a 17-point comeback in one half with a gimpy QB, because you know there won’t be any chance of a backup getting in there.
Joy.
Roll Tide.
