Bruno Guimaraes is now the biggest unresolved question of Newcastle United’s summer, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali already gone and Arsenal still pushing for a transfer for the Magpies’ captain.
According to The Mirror’s Scott Trotter, Newcastle views Bruno’s talent as “priceless” and does not want to sell him at any cost. Trotter’s report states that Eddie Howe wants to keep the Brazil international at all costs, with Newcastle maintaining that he is not for sale at any price.
“Newcastle remain
keen to keep Bruno Guimaraes amid interest in the Brazilian from Arsenal, with the club viewing his talents as ‘priceless,’” The Mirror reported.
That stance contrasts with Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, who revealed on Wednesday that an offer for around £65 million, roughly €75 million, could be the threshold internally set by Newcastle for the sale of Bruno.
Ryder said Arsenal’s initial verbal offer, worth around £45 million, was rejected, but suggested a higher official bid could change the situation. “We’re told £65 million could be the tipping point,” Ryder said.
Newcastle, meanwhile, is also reportedly planning to offer Bruno a massive £40 million contract after his representatives spoke to both clubs, in what is looking like a plot from the Brazilian’s camp to get him a humongous raise and likely his last huge paycheck before he starts to decline.
The concern for Newcastle, per Ryder, is that Bruno has only two years left on his current deal and could try to find glory elsewhere instead of re-inking his Magpies deal and struggle in the middle of the table at Newcastle during the final years of his prime.
Arsenal, on the other hand, can offer Bruno an immediate place in their XI as well as weekly Champions League matches and the privilige of playing for the reigning Premier League champs and staying in contention for the English’ top-flight division title.
