Barcelona have announced that Sunday’s La Liga match with Real Sociedad will take place at Montjuic as the club still does not have permission to return to Camp Nou.
Here’s the club’s official statement:
“FC Barcelona informs that the match corresponding to Matchday 7 of LaLiga, on Sunday, September 28, at 18:30 h, against Real Sociedad, will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
“The Club continues working to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of Spotify Camp Nou
in the coming months. In this context, FC Barcelona has already submitted all the documentation related to the first occupancy notification for Phase 1A (Tribune and South Goal), as well as responses to the documentary observations provided by the Barcelona City Council to date. The Club is currently working on the new amendments that the Council has shared today.
“FC Barcelona thanks its members and supporters for their understanding and support during such a complex and exciting process, as the Club prepares for the return to the new Spotify Camp Nou.”
Barcelona have been denied a return to the Camp Nou due to safety concerns. The city council offered an update on the situation on Tuesday.
“We have spotted different elements that need to be fixed and have an impact in the safety and security of the stadium,” chief of civil protection Sebastia Massague said.
“Some of those elements are in the access routes to the stadium, to ensure all the fans can attend at the stadium.”
The Catalan giants are also due to play their Champions League clash with PSG at Montjuic, although Barcelona’s deputy mayor has said their aim is for “Barca to return to the stadium as soon as possible,”
