While former NFL MVP Josh Allen still has his sights set on leading the Buffalo Bills to their first Super Bowl championship, there’s another red, white, and blue squad that Allen hopes to lead to a title: Team USA.
Allen said in a recent interview that he “would sign up tomorrow” to represent Team USA in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by hearing from Allen on what it would mean to play for his country at the Olympics.
Let
us know in the comments section how well you think Allen would fare in playing flag football for Team USA.
Josh Allen has ‘always dreamed of competing for my country’
Allen first expressed interest in playing flag football for his country last offseason, when the NFL owners signed off on league players participating in the sport when it debuts as an Olympic offering in 2028. At the time, Allen told reporters winning an Olympic gold medal is something he’s dreamed about for years, reaffirming that interest in going for gold in an interview with two-time Olympic gold medalist freestyle skier Chris Lillis.
“I’ve always dreamed of competing for my country and being able to wear my own gold medal, but we’ll see how it works,” Allen said.
There are a lot of things that would need to be sorted out before Allen could be added to Team USA’s roster. For starters, Allen admits he doesn’t “know the ins-and-outs really of flag football. It was a much different game than I thought it would be. But I do think that if there is a potential space, I would love to do it.”
Then there’s the NFL rule allowing a maximum of one player per NFL team to participate at the Olympics.
“I don’t know if they’d want me,” Allen said. “I’m from California. It’s in L.A. I live here now. Who knows?”
