WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella had some good news about the injury she suffered last Saturday at SummerSlam, but even with that she’s facing a long road back.
In a Post-SummerSlam edition of The Nikki & Brie Show that the Twins didn’t plan for, Brie revealed that she won’t need surgery for her broken shoulder blade (scapula). Avoiding the knife is always good in my book, and apparently isn’t part of the normal treatment for broken scapulas.
The normal treatment is to just let it heal, which is a slow
process. The 42-year-old is out 3-6 months — and that’s if everything goes well.
“He was like, ‘It’s really hard to break your scapula. No one does surgery on scapulas. If you really want it, there is one doctor that can do it. But honestly, it’s like breaking your ribs, in a way. You just wait until they slowly heal.’ And so that’s what I have to do. From there, you guys, I’m out for three to six months. So it all depends how my scapula heals. I like to think us Bellas, our bones heal quick. But, the scapula’s kind of a tricky one.”
The injury happened when Brie took a cannonball against the ring steps from Jacy Jayne. Brie made sure to say she placed none of the blame on Fatal Influence’s leader:
“I do want to say that it’s nobody’s fault. My injury, it’s part of the business. I broke it on the stairs when I got the cannonball. But it was weird because when it happened, I instantly knew.”
She also said she waved off the referee when he suggested calling the match, and that she tried to power through even after officials told her to stay out the action. There were spots she couldn’t take part in, however, and she worries that she made the match look “sloppy” and ruined it for the others.
Her sister assured her that wasn’t the case, and put the focus back on Brie’s comeback, which will involve biweekly x-rays to see how her shoulder is healing. She’s scheduled to start physical therapy in two weeks.
