Germany’s World Cup qualifying kicked off with an unprecedented loss to Slovakia. The Germans rebounded with a resounding 3-1 win against Northern Ireland. Marred by injuries, inexperience, and poor chemistry, Julian Nagelsmann will need to push all the right buttons to earn six points and get back Germany back on course.
Historically,
Germany have dominated the Luxembourgers with four wins in European qualifiers and the Olympics, with a plus-20 goal differential.
After losses to the other Group A nations, Luxembourg will need to secure some points this weekend to avoid elimination.
Team News
Here is the predicted lineup, courtesy of BFW:

Julian Nagelsmann will have some convoluted scheme that overcomplicates the tactics against a weak opponent. The four attackers will rotate positions freely, keeping the ball and motion moving to create unexpected spaces.
The squad’s biggest weakness is the lack of a right-back. Red Bull Leipzig’s Ridle Baku is the newest contestant. He has a decade of Bundesliga experience and the job is ripe for the taking. Aleksandar Pavlović and Leon Goretzka are also interchangeable next to Joshua Kimmich in the central midfield. Starting goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has been dealing with flu symptoms, giving Alexander Nübel an opportunity. Nick Woltemade is also battling a minor illness and should be saved for Monday’s match.
Luxembourg has settled into a four-man defense but lack experience all over the pitch. The Luxembourgers will likely sit in a low block and only push forward opportunistically, counting on set pieces for goal scoring opportunities.
The Germany national team is up once again and has two very winnable matches on its slate for the October international break against both Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
Julian Nagelsmann will not be operating with a full roster thanks to injuries and illnesses, but this should give him a chance to further make his mind up on several players who are on the bubble for the 2026 World Cup.
