While we haven’t quite reached the seven updates a day rate of the Jadon Sancho to Roma rumors from the summer, the Giallorossi are suddenly caught up in another transfer saga involving a wantaway Manchester
United attacker. As we discussed yesterday, Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma have their sights set on United’s forward/attacking midfielder, Joshua Zirkzee.
After failing to meet expectations following his €42.5 million transfer to United in the summer of 2022, Zirkzee has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for several months now. However, with the World Cup just seven months away and Zirkzee growing antsy at his prospects of making the Netherlands squad, the 24-year-old is reportedly aiming for a return to Serie A.
Although the January transfer market is still a few weeks away, the Gazzetta dello Sport chimed in with some details about the potential Gasperini-Zirkzee deal. According to the GdS, Zirkzee would arrive in Rome on a six-month loan, with the Giallorossi covering the €1.8 million balance of his salary for the rest of the season. And if they like what they see in Zirkzee between January and June, Roma will have a €30 million option to make the transfer permanent, giving Gasperini another pillar for his ambitious project.
Of course, any time a young, talented attacking talent like Zirkzee pops up on the market, the buzzards start to swirl overhead, so expect Roma to expect stiff competition from several clubs, including AC Milan.
