The Washington Mystics defeated the Atlanta Dream 79-74 on Friday at CareFirst Arena to extend their winning streak to six games.
Once again, Shakira Austin led Washington’s scoring attack with a team-high 21 points on 7-for-11 from the field. She added 11 rebounds and five blocks as her two-way prowess was on full display.
The Mystics led 19-13 after the first quarter and doubled that lead entering halftime.
Allisha Gray kept Atalanta alive with a game-high 26 points. But she struggled from 3-point
range, connecting on just two of her nine long-range attempts.
Washington extended its lead to 16 entering the final frame behind a standout defensive effort that held the Dream to just 46 points through three quarters.
Gray’s efforts nearly brought Atlanta back, outscoring Washington by 11 in the quarter. But the Mystics’ lead was too much to overcome as they earned another victory to improve to 18-12 on the season.
