Final tune up was a success for Fresno State, as they defeated Southern by a final score of 56-7 on Saturday night in Fresno.
The game was just what the doctor ordered for EJ Warner’s stats. A week after leading his team to the go-ahead score against Oregon State, Warner fired four touchdown passes against the Jaguars, his first four of the season.
“When you’re talking about a fifth-year senior, I don’t know how much more development there is,” said Bulldogs coach Matt Entz to the Fresno Bee following
the contest. “Probably from a confidence standpoint.”
Warner finished 20-of-24 for 240 yards to go along with those four touchdowns. Bryson Donelson had 90 yards rushing on nine carries, as Fresno State hammered out 507 total yards of offense.
The defense also clamped down on the Jaguars, allowing just 142 total yards, just 11 of which were rushing yards, on the way to the victory.
The Bulldogs finished out of conference play with a record of 3-1, and riding a three-game winning streak to boot. They will open Mountain West Conference play this coming Saturday as they travel to the islands to take on Hawaii. Kickoff for that game is a late night one in Fresno, at 9:00 p.m.
