The Dallas Cowboys will kick off their season finale next week, Sunday, January 4th to be clear, on the road against the New York Giants at 1:00pm ET. The game will be televised by FOX.
In case you were unaware, the NFL schedules divisional games in the season finale for every single team. Their goal, if not obvious, is to have dramatic games between rivals where things like division titles or seeding for the playoffs is on the line. None of that is the case for the Cowboys this year.
There will be
three big time games across the league next week between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens as well as the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, plus the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, but the Cowboys game against the Giants has no serious stakes involved which is why the league has buried it in the early window. Such is life when you are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs before Christmas, and well before that in New York’s case.
While this won’t help anything relative to the playoffs the Cowboys are playing for a chance to finish with a non-losing record as a win would put them at .500 on the season with a mark of 8-8-1. The Giants in all likelihood costed themselves the number one overall pick with their win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, so you can imagine they will be rather upset throughout the week leading up to the game.
See you on Sunday bright and early (ish).
