During a recent interview, Bret Hart said he refused to take Scott Hall’s finisher, The Razor’s Edge, because he felt the move was “too dangerous.”
The Hitman shared the information while speaking with Dominic DeAngelo of Studio 1 Sports on Monday, adding that Hall—who would have been wrestling as Razor Ramon at the time—had tried to persuade him that the move was safe.
“His finish where he would do that, what we call The Razor’s Edge, and he would pick you up and drop you on your head. I remember
I go, ‘Nobody is doing that to me, ever. I don’t care,’ and I would stand by that today,” Hart said, adding, “He goes, ‘Oh, don’t worry. I’ll set you down.’ I’m like, ‘Not on my f***ing head you’re not. No way. There’s no f***ing way.”
Hart continued saying about the fellow WWE Hall of Famer Hall: “‘You’re 6’6 or something. You’re gonna fall backwards with me. The first thing that hits the ground is my head, and my upper back.’ I said, ‘This doesn’t make any sense. It’s too dangerous, too stupid of a move for me to do,’ and I refused to do it, period.”
The Canadian legend said that at the time of his first encounter with Hall, he didn’t “know him well enough to let him do that. I actually would never let anybody do that move to me, just for the same reason that I said that I would never take a bump where I could fall and land on the back of my head and maybe break my neck.”
Hart added about The Razor’s Edge that “it’s a really dangerous move to do. I would never let anyone do that to me anywhere in any country, and in any company.”
He did go on to say that while he didn’t know much about Hall’s wrestling background when they first met, the Kliq member “was more my friend” by the time of their famous King of the Ring match in 1993.
Of course, Hart blames what he has called the unsafe work of Goldberg for the end of his career. He has repeatedly cited a stiff kick to the head from Goldberg at Starrcade ’99 for a concussion that he says ultimately led to an early retirement. Goldberg, though, has countered Bret was told the kick was coming and failed to respond accordingly.
