According to a report from The Sun (as captured by ESPN), German national team manager and former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann is on Manchester United’s shortlist of candidates to replace Ruben Amorim:
Since the sacking of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United have turned things around under interim boss Michael Carrick, but that doesn’t mean that he is the long-term option. No, in fact, United are looking at five managers to replace Carrick in the summer, according to The Sun. They are reported
to be: Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, former Brighton and Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi, and current Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann. Glasner is leaving Palace in the summer, while De Zerbi is out of work after departing Marseille recently, but the rest may take some persuading.
BFW Analysis
Okay, we get it — it’s The Sun (don’t look directly into it…we know). However, there were different stories this week regarding the potential of Jürgen Klopp leaving his post at Red Bull for a return to coaching. One position that would would reportedly interest Klopp is — you guessed it — the German national team.
It might be nothing but rumors and conjecture, but there seems to be at least a little unrest since Nagelsmann’s big interview with Kicker. Maybe Nagelsmann put some heat on himself with that…maybe not. The former RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim head coach could look to jump back into the club scene after the World Cup, though (despite his contract with the DFB running through the EURO 2028 competition).
An opportunity like the one with Manchester United might be too good for Nagelsmann to pass up and it seems doubtful that the DFB would stand in the way of a move. If Nagelsmann is great or horrible, a move is conceivable. If he is middling, that might be where this gets difficult.
