Ohio State sits at 3-0 following a 37-9 victory over Ohio University.
The first half of the game probably had most of Buckeye Nation worried, leading just 13-3 at half. However, Ohio State’s offense was able to find its groove in the second half, and the Buckeyes left the weekend with their third-straight win.
The Buckeyes are now in an early-season bye week, one which will help Ryan Day and the Buckeyes coaching staff figure out any weaknesses exploited in the first three weeks of the season. It will also
give the coaching staff more time to recruit.
Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class is all but wrapped up. The team would like to add a few more pieces to the class, and they may be adding one sooner than later. However, the majority of the focus for Ohio State when it comes to recruiting is on next year’s class, where the Buckeyes already have commitments from two of the nation’s top recruits. T
he Buckeyes will continue to add to this class, and got off to a quick start working through the bye week by offering four-star edge Jayce Brewer (Indianapolis, IN / Franklin Central).
While the offer from the Buckeyes is new, his relationship with Ohio State and Buckeyes’ defensive line coach Larry Johnson is not. Brewer visited with Ohio State in the spring for one of Ohio State’s spring recruiting camps and was also scheduled to visit with the Buckeyes for the Texas game. Additionally, the Ohio State offer was one he was looking forward to.
That being said, Ohio State is not alone in his recruitment. Notre Dame, Tennessee, Nebraska, Indiana, Purdue and Penn State have long been recruiting him too. Brewer has also seen his recruitment take off this summer earning offers from the likes of Texas A&M, USC, LSU, Michigan, Arizona State, Kentucky, Iowa and others.
Ohio State is likely one of the top contenders in his recruitment, but to his credit, Brewer has not yet released a top schools list. However, the Buckeyes will likely need to get him to return to campus later this season if they are going to secure his commitment.
Defensive line has been an area of concern when it comes to Ohio State recruiting the last few classes, and adding Brewer to its 2027 class would go a long way in bucking that trend.
Brewer is the No. 26 Edge prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, and he is the No. 232 national recruit. He is also the No. 3 recruit out of Indiana, a state that Ohio State has seen recent success in.
Ohio State trending to flip 2026 OT
As was mentioned previously, Ohio State’s 2026 class is all but finished, other than a few additional recruits the Buckeyes would like to finish off the class with. One of those recruits Ohio State has been making feel like a priority as of late is NC State three-star offensive tackle commit Landry Brede (Mentor, OH / Mentor), who Ohio State only offered on Sept. 3.
Despite the late offer, the in-state recruit is no stranger to the Buckeyes, and since the offer Ohio State has made Brede feel like a priority. The Buckeyes already got him to visit for an in-game visit during the Ohio game, and the atmosphere and performance of the team may have been enough to sway the NC State commit.
Following the visit, multiple predictions were cast in favor of Ohio State for Brede by On3 recruiting insiders. However, he is still committed to NC State, a school which he committed to only just a few months ago, and he has not yet decommitted from the program either.
That being said, where there is smoke, there usually comes fire, and Ohio State has to like where it sits with the in-state prospect. Brede also being from Ohio gives the Buckeyes an extra weapon in their arsenal to flip his commitment.
It must also be noted that National Recruiting and Transfer Portal reporter for Rivals and On3, Hayes Fawcett, who has become the go-to guy for recruiting edits and commitment announcements, took to social media late Monday night hinting at an Ohio State commitment announcement on the horizon.
While there is no way to confirm Fawcett is referring to Brede, the Buckeyes have made a lot of noise in his recruitment as of late. Fawcett’s post could also be referencing another recruit committing to the Buckeyes, which would be more surprising, but welcome news for Ohio State and Buckeye Nation.
Brede is the No. 93 OT in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 1117 national recruit. He is also the No. 47 recruit from Ohio.
