Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year, we ask questions of the most plugged-in
Kansas City Royals fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.Earlier this week, we asked which current Royals’ prospect was your favorite:
This was a far more lopsided result than I had expected when I first wrote this question out. It doesn’t surprise me that Kendry Chourio got the most votes, but it does surprise me that he got 70%!
And no one else got more than 10%. It’s not undeserved, though; he’s already considered a consensus top-50 prospect while still just 18 in High-A. And perhaps deserving of a promotion to AA sooner rather than later.
It’s heartening to see Zion Rose come in third after they seemed very upset upon his draft placement. It’s at least as understandable to see Blake Mitchell get the fewest votes considering his problems with strikeouts, even if he also has prodigious power and takes more walks than seems possible. But I think fans might be sleeping on Josh Hammond a little. He’s in just about everyone’s updated top-70 prospects, and he’s hitting slightly over league average in Low-A despite being more than a year younger than the average age at that level.
We talked about Angeibel Gomez a bit last time, but are there any other Royals prospects people are particularly excited about that didn’t make the list? While you ponder that question, please take a look at the result of Zion Rose’s first professional at-bat:
