After a difficult homestand in which they won just three of their nine games—including being swept by the San Francisco Giants—the Colorado Rockies are headed to Chavez Ravine for a three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Rockies still need two more wins to avoid the worst record in a 162-game season, and any further losses will cement 2025 as the worst season in franchise history.
Starting for the Rockies is the right-handed Chase Dollander. Dollander is coming off a somewhat rough outing
against the Giants last week in which he gave up six earned runs on five hits—two of which were home runs—and three walks. He was more efficient—throwing just 84 pitches—but only struck out two batters.
Dollander has not enjoyed his starts against the Dodgers this season. His first outing against them was the now infamous game in which he was through 5 2/3 scoreless innings before the infield lost a pop fly in the pouring rain. Dollander would be dinged for three earned runs and the Rockies went on to lost 8-1 at Coors Field.
A few weeks ago, Dollander gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and two walks at home, lasting just 3 2/3 innings in another Rockies loss.
The Rockies are aiming to play a bit of spoiler against a Dodgers club that might be losing their grip on the National League West. The Dodgers have won just two of their last nine games. They were swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates and were walked off by the Baltimore Orioles in back-to-back games. In the second of those walk-offs, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto was just one strike away from a no-hitter before Jackson Holliday took him deep.
The Dodgers’ starting pitcher is the right-handed Tyler Glasnow, who has a 3.41 ERA over 14 starts this season.
Glasnow joined the Dodgers prior to the 2024 season, but due to his extensive injury history the Rockies have only faced off against him once. In two innings the Rockies have a home run as their only hit against him. He has elite extension and operates with a four-pitch arsenal consisting of a mid-90s four seam fastball, a slider, a sinker, and curveball that averages a whopping 56.7 inches of vertical drop.
