The Steelers are searching for a new head coach, meaning that assistants under former head coach Mike Tomlin have been searching for jobs elsewhere around the league.
Teams have requested interviews with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for both head coaching and offensive coordinator jobs this offseason. Smith interviewed with the Tennessee Titans for their head coaching job, which was filled this week by Robert Saleh. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday that the team is talking
to him about their offensive coordinator job.
Smith was previously the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans from 2019-20.
Smith has reportedly also drawn interest in the Arizona Cardinals’ head coaching search, as well as the Chargers and Lions’ offensive coordinator searches. Only the Arizona job remains unfilled.
Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has also started to draw interest. On Friday, The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala reported that Austin interviewed for the Washington Commanders’ defensive coordinator job.
Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Smith already found a new job, moving to the same position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
