All-Pro guard Tyler Smith could make his 2026 debut on Thursday against the Tampa Buccaneers, which will give the Cowboys’ offensive line a major boost. Dallas could still use some upgrades to their roster, and team owner Jerry Jones says he’s still open for business.
Left tackle Tyler Guyton had a lot to prove coming into his third season, and he’s showing why he was a first-round pick. Here’s the latest news for the Cowboys.

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones made an appearance on 105.3 The Fan to discuss
many things, including Tyler Smith.
“How he feels about that hand,” Jones said of what Smith would need to determine. “Now that’s a big deal, that hand. And we all understand it in an offensive lineman boy, he’s got a punch, and I mean that thumb or that hand has to really be ready to take a beating out there because without it, you can’t do much.”
“But it’s up to him. He’ll have a feel for it. He’ll have a feel as the game is going. He’ll see if he’s reluctant in any way because of the mental aspects of it, but he’s ready to play. He can play, and I mean play at that level that we’re used to see him right now. We’ll just let him feel it out and see if he wants to go.”

Tyler Guyton has turned the corner in his development at left tackle. One play in particular proved that last week against the Texans.
It’s one of those plays that symbolizes what Guyton has become in the first month of the season: terrific.
And to think, Guyton’s job status was a question in training camp. Now, with the Cowboys about to face the Buccaneers on Thursday night, there are no worries about the left tackle position.
‘That’s what he does’ – Dallas Cowboys know exactly what weaknesses to exploit on the Bucs defense come Thursday night – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZ Sports
The Buccaneers will undoubtedly bring a lot of pressure against the Cowboys’ offense. However, that fits right into Dak Prescott’s hands.
Not only is Dak Prescott known as one the most dangerous quarterbacks against the blitz, but the Bucs defense isn’t getting its money’s worth for sending 5+ defenders. Despite their high blitz rate, they’re dead last in the league in pressure rate.
And Bowles knows how it goes when you blitz Prescott, too. He’s seen it firsthand. In the 2022-2023 playoffs, the Bucs blitzed the Cowboys in 35% of his dropbacks. The result? Dak completed nine of 12 pass attempts for 109 yards and one touchdown.

Dallas releases latest injury news ahead of NFC battle with Tampa Bay.
Cornerback Cobie Durant, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and offensive tackle Drew Shelton will not be available as they all recover from hamstring injuries. Durant and Overshown are closer to a return for the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, while Shelton is “week to week” after suffering the injury in Week 4, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith is aiming to make his season debut after a thumb injury on his right hand required surgery just days before the season began.
Quinnen Williams on quick turnaround for Cowboys vs. Buccaneers: ‘I’m not tired’ – Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com
The Cowboys only had three days to prepare for the Buccaneers. However, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams welcomes the challenge.
Thursday night will mark the third game that the Cowboys have played in 11 days, the first of which was 10 hours away in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said that his team is “tired” and “sore” heading into the quick turnaround as a whole. Williams, personally, disagreed.
“I’m not tired,” Williams said. “I love football, I look more forward to the opportunity and getting a chance to play again, get to play at prime time against a great team, against Todd Bowles. It’s an amazing opportunity for us.”
