The Wisconsin Badgers had a rough performance on Saturday, losing 30-0 to the Iowa Hawkeyes in an ugly day for the offense.
Wisconsin benched Colton Joseph after three quarters of uninspiring play, while the Badgers were never competitive in this one.
Here’s all the snap counts and PFF grades from Wisconsin’s loss to Iowa on Saturday.
Quarterbacks
Colton Joseph – Snap Count: [32], Grade: 35.4
Ryan Hopkins – Snap Count: [19], Grade: 57.5
Colton Joseph had an ugly game on Saturday, completing just 5 of 14 passes for
90 yards, while having no impact with his legs either. It was clear Wisconsin needed a quarterback change, and they went to Ryan Hopkins, who threw for 93 yards and an interception on 8 of 13 passing.
Wisconsin needs to seriously consider a change here. We’ll see what they do this week.
Running Backs
Darrion Dupree – Snap Count: [26], Grade: 67.2
Abu Sama III – Snap Count: [15], Grade: 65.9
Bryan Jackson II – Snap Count: [10], Grade: 66.2
The Badgers rotated three backs, and not one got more than six carries. Abu Sama went for 23 yards on his six carries. Darrion Dupree had 22 yards on five carries, while Bryan Jackson had six yards on five carries.
Nothing really worked in the run game, outside of two runs, and the Badgers totaled just 52 yards on 24 rushes.
Wide Receivers
Jaylon Domingeaux – Snap Count: [34], Grade: 77.2
Tyrell Henry – Snap Count: [30], Grade: 54.0
Chris Brooks Jr. – Snap Count: [27], Grade: 66.9
Eugene Hilton Jr. – Snap Count: [25], Grade: 59.8
Malachi Coleman – Snap Count: [12], Grade: 54.9
Shamar Rigby – Snap Count: [6], Grade: 56.4
Jaylon Domingeaux is clearly emerging as the No. 1 wide receiver, which is what I expected coming into the season. He had six catches for 86 yards, while Tyrell Henry had 2 for 54 yards. Henry did fumble at the end of the game on the team’s final offensive possession.
But the top four have been Domingeaux, Henry, Brooks, and Hilton now.
Tight Ends
Jacob Harris – Snap Count: [28], Grade: 53.8
Grant Stec – Snap Count: [18], Grade: 44.5
Ryan Schwendeman – Snap Count: [16], Grade: 55.3
Emmett Bork – Snap Count: [8], Grade: 54.1
Interestingly, it was a much lower snap count day for the Badgers, as Wisconsin fell behind early and never got to establish the run.
Harris and Schwendeman combined for 2 catches and 10 yards, and that was all the production from the room. But this felt like the lowest day of usage from the tight ends all season long.
Offensive Line
Emerson Mandell – Snap Count: [51], Grade: 62.4
Kevin Heywood – Snap Count: [51], Grade: 46.3
Colin Cubberly – Snap Count: [45], Grade: 59.5
Stylz Blackmon – Snap Count: [34], Grade: 57.6
Austin Kawecki – Snap Count: [32], Grade: 55.6
Ryan Cory – Snap Count: [17], Grade: 53.3
Blake Cherry – Snap Count: [14], Grade: 61.8
PJ Wilkins – Snap Count: [11], Grade: 57.5
Wisconsin has to figure out its offensive line group. There have been far too many changes the last few weeks. Yes, injuries played into it, but the Badgers had a three-way rotation at right guard with Austin Kawecki, Blake Cherry, and PJ Wilkins.
It’s unfortunate that Wisconsin has struggled to be consistent here, especially against a team like Iowa. Additionally, there were too many procedural penalties from this group on Saturday. That cannot continue to happen.
