What are some tips for getting to and enjoying the matches at AT&T Stadium?
To get into Dallas by plane, you have two airport options: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Love Field (DAL) in Dallas. DFW is the closest airport to AT&T Stadium.
AT&T Stadium seats 80,000 people, but there aren’t many options for public transportation. Arlington, Texas is the largest city in the country without a mass transit system, so no trains or light rail will bring you close to the stadium perimeter. Thus, most people drive to the stadium and try to find parking from one of the dozens of parking lots surrounding the stadium. There are some lots around the stadium where tailgating is possible, but none of the lots located within the FIFA security perimeter will have tailgating. Fans can also utilize rideshare options like Uber or Lyft to get to the stadium.
Arlington has several options for places to hang out and pregame before a match. J. Gilligans, which is about a quarter mile walk from AT&T Stadium, is a great place to pregame if you’re looking to have a bite to eat and watch the other games before you walk into the stadium.
What else can I see and do while in Dallas?
Sports fans visiting a new place for sports are usually interested in checking out other sports! There will be plenty of other sporting events that take place outside of the World Cup in the Metroplex. For baseball, Globe Life Field is located right next to AT&T Stadium, and the Texas Rangers will have several home games during the tournament (though none on the dates Dallas is hosting a World Cup match).
The Frisco Roughriders, the Rangers’ AA affiliate, will also have home games. The Dallas Wings of the WNBA will have a few home games at the College Park Center on the campus of University of Texas at Arlington. MLS Next Pro side North Texas SC will have one home match: on July 4th when they open their new stadium, Texas Health Mansfield Stadium just down the road in Mansfield, Texas. Finally, for the cricket fans, Major League Cricket is the T20 league in the United States. They will have several matches at the league’s main home of Grand Prairie Stadium just a few miles from JerryWorld.
If you’re in Texas for the first time, you better saddle up and get some barbecue! There are a ton of options in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, but if you have to make a pick by the stadium, consider Hurtado. It’s a few blocks away from JerryWorld and it has the meats that any first-timer would love. But, there is terrific barbecue all over town…just follow the smells.
What are some interesting landmarks to visit?
In Fort Worth, check out the Stockyards, the historic livestock market that ran continuously dating back to 1866. In Dallas, you can visit Daley Plaza and the infamous Book Depository where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. At night, Deep Ellum is a place filled with bars and places to listen to music and have a good time.
What if I don’t have a ticket?
The Metroplex is a huge metropolis, but if there’s a place where you can watch some soccer, it’s The Londoner. They have locations in Dallas and Addison and will be the place to watch the U.S. games assuming you don’t have tickets to a World Cup game at JerryWorld that day.
