The New York Jets had a very quiet offseason with one exception: the signing of dynamic (but to date statistically mediocre) Justin Fields.
Weeks of practice clips on X later, the opinions of Fields’ play among Jets fans vary. For some, the upside remains tantalizing. For others, the inaccurate passes are a non-starter. In the coming weeks everyone will get to find out who was right.
In the interim, the opinions of Jets decision makers are really all that matter for the team. Recently, General Manager
Darren Mougey provided some thoughts on how he thinks Fields has improved since joining the team.
By no means is anything that he’s saying here all that groundbreaking. One would hope that months of practice would allow Fields a better grasp of the offense, which seems to be what Mougey is getting at here. Regardless, it seems like Mougey is at least a little bit encouraged by what he’s seeing. Fingers crossed that yields some better offensive play than the team has seen in recent years.
