The Miami Dolphins host the New York Giants this afternoon in a Preseason Week 2 showdown. Both teams are shifting from conditioning and development work to tuning up for the regular season. Where are the biggest areas of concern for Dolphins fans when it comes to the team’s preparations for the season?
Earlier this week, we asked you that question in our SB Nation Reacts survey. Nearly half of the responses zero in on one major area of concern: the secondary. Miami’s cornerbacks and safeties are battling
for position and roster spots, but there are not a lot of players standing out as the best of the pack. Depth concerns, as well as inexperience, dominate both position groups and, if Miami’s edge rushers cannot get immediate pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the secondary may not be up to their coverage responsibilities.
The backup quarterback position, where Quinn Ewers struggled last week against the Washington Commanders and is now injured, was second in the results, receiving 32 percent of the vote. Injuries already starting to hit the team was third with 15 percent, while punting received four percent of the vote.
Miami heads into the game as a 3.5-point underdog, according to the FanDuel Sportsbook oddmakers, despite being at home. That is probably something we as fans should get used to hearing – Miami is projected to be the worst team in the AFC this year.
