Marcus Rashford’s next move has been one of the more interesting stories of the summer, and former Premier League striker Louis Saha believes the England international should have aimed for a club like Bayern Munich rather than remaining in the Premier League.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona, where he made an impact and even scored the goal that secured the club’s league title. Saha believes that experience should have pushed Rashford toward another European giant
rather than a move where he would be expected to immediately become the centerpiece.
Saha explained why Bayern Munich could have been an ideal destination for Rashford:
“For a player like Marcus Rashford, he might not want to drop down a level. Manchester United are one of the five biggest clubs in the world. When you are at that level, and you’ve just spent a season at Barcelona, you don’t want to take a step down,” Saha told Mr Gamble. “I think he needs to move abroad and go to a club like Juventus or Bayern Munich. He needs to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, where the pressure is there to be the number one team in the title race.”
There is certainly an argument that Bayern Munich could have offered Rashford the environment Saha describes. The expectations would be enormous, but so would the opportunity to compete for major trophies while playing alongside some of the best players in Europe.
Would Marcus Rashford have been a good fit for Bayern Munich?
