It took almost five quarters for the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the Indianapolis Colts in overtime Sunday night. Fortunately, the team appears to have come out of the 33-30 victory relatively healthy.
The Chiefs reported no injuries during the game. But for a strange situation, head coach Andy Reid had no injuries to discuss after the game.
“Everyone who started the game finished the game,” said Reid to open his postgame comments. “There’s no real injuries to mention.”
However, the most curious injury
story coming out of Sunday involved a player who did not start the game.
Rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane left Week 1’s contest with a shoulder injury after only three defensive plays. Delane participated in each practice prior to the Colts matchup and was declared active for Sunday’s contest despite drawing a questionable designation on the final injury report Friday.
Despite being active, the rookie never took the field. Reid confirmed after the game that Delane was active in case needed in an emergency. However, the plan appeared to always have been that backup Kristian Fulton would play the game at Delane’s outside corner position.
Reid believes Fulton played well despite drawing multiple costly pass interference flags.
“It was as an extra guy,” Reid remarked. “I don’t want to take anything from Fulton either. He stepped in and did a heck of a job. A couple of those calls could go either way, I think. I’m glad [Delane] came out and was there in case we needed him.”
The Chiefs will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s road contest with the Miami Dolphins. We will monitor Delane’s practice participation throughout the week.
