Let’s check in on the kids on the farm.
Lehigh Valley 6, Rochester 4
What qualifies as an offensive explosion for a minor league team? Even with six runs only, the IronPigs had four players with two hits on the night, two of which – Paul McIntosh and Dylan Carlson – included a home run with their night, enough to give Lehigh Valley the victory.
Tucker Davidson pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits, striking out five.
Luckily for him, the bullpen was solid, Michael Mercado, Tanner Banks and Nolan Hoffman only allowing a single baserunner over their four innings of work. Good win on the evening.
Reading 9, New Hampshire 6
I was told this was going to be good pitching matchup with Gage Wood on the mound for Reading and Nolan Perry going for the Fisher Cats. Both of them held up their end, even if Perry only threw three innings. Wood had five innings of work, giving up two runs on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Once these two were out of the game, the offenses woke up a bit. For Reading, starting in the seventh, Bryan Rincon hit a two-run home run to knot the game at four, followed by Raylin Heredia homering later in the inning to give them the lead. After the bullpen held for an inning, the eighth inning saw Kehden Hettiger and Pedro Leon homering to bolster the lead, one that Reading wouldn’t give up.
Rome 6, Jersey Shore 1
So much for offense.
The BlueClaws continued struggling, mustering a measly run on seven hits, Daunte Stuart and Tyler Miller getting two of them. Nick Biddison and Kodey Shojinaga each hit a double for their parts. On the mound, Cody Bowker had another strong effort.
78 strikeouts in 52 2/3 innings is nothing to sneeze at.
Ft. Myers 5, Clearwater 4
The Threshers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second innings thanks to Jonathan Hogart hitting a two-run double, then scoring on a Will Vierling single, but it wasn’t enough as the Mighty Mussels stormed back to take the game. Alirio Ferrebus had two hits on the evening, one of them a double, but the pitching faltered late. Cade Obermueller continued his recent surge, striking out four in four innings, but giving up two runs on two hits and four walks.
