Newcastle United are moving closer to securing the long-term future of Lewis Miley, with the latest reports pointing toward an extension being in the near horizon.
“Lewis Miley is closing in on an agreement over a new contract at Newcastle United as they aim to end exit speculation,” Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reported on May 17.
The Magpies like the 20-year-old’s game and trust his development and recent performances, and a contract extension would also help stiff-arm the rest of the Premier
League clubs already showing interest in the young midfielder.
“The Magpies are keen to reward him for his recent form and tie his future down at St James’ Park,” O’Rourke reported. “Agreeing a new deal with Miley will put an end to growing interest in his signature.”
Despite already being under contract until 2029, both sides are open to extending terms, with a sizable salary raise expected.
“There’s also a willingness from Miley’s side and also from Newcastle to get a new deal tied up,” O’Rourke said. “Obviously have the player at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future. He’s under contract until 2029 so any new deal would be on improved terms for him.”
Newcastle view Miley as a key part of their long-term plans under Eddie Howe, particularly with uncertainty surrounding several senior midfielders heading into the summer window and the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes looking like potential sale candidates.
At the time of the report, Miley had appeared in 34 games across all competitions for Newcastle throughout the 2025-26 season, scoring three goals and assisting on four more while logging a combined 2,164 minutes of play and starting 20 games.
