The Miami Dolphins are releasing fullback Alec Ingold, as per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. According to the report, both parties held “discussions” about a new deal, but ultimately were not able to come to an agreement.
Ingold signed a 3-year, $12.2 million extension with the Dolphins in 2023 that kept him under contract through the 2026 season. At the time, Ingold was the highest-paid fullback in the league, a position crucial to former head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense. He still holds that title as of today, with Kyle Juszcyzk of the San Francisco 49ers just behind him at $3.75 million APY, to Ingold’s $4 million.
But McDaniel gone, and the Dolphins desperately trying to clear cap space, releasing Ingold was an obvious move. By releasing Ingold before the June 1st deadline, the Dolphins instantly clear approximately $3.1 million in cap space while incurring roughly $2 million in dead money. It’s unclear how (or if) the Dolphins will look to replace Ingold this season, with many teams around the NFL increasingly moving away from the fullback role on offense. In fact, there are just seven listed fullback contracts in the entire NFL, with Ingold being one of them.
