The Los Angeles Chargers are in need of getting some new blood in the trenches.
They already added Cole Strange in free agency, but they could benefit from adding another talented offensive lineman. Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton suggests Cleveland Browns offensive lineman (and Michigan alum) Zak Zinter as a possible trade candidate.
“Zak Zinter played four collegiate terms under Harbaugh at Michigan. He was a consensus All-American in his senior year. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the third
round of the 2024 draft,” Moton wrote.
“The Browns have a new coaching regime led by Todd Monken, an offensive-minded lead skipper who may have a different vision for the offense.
“Besides that, the Browns have signed Elgton Jenkins and Zion Johnson, two interior offensive linemen. Zinter has started in just three out of 22 games. So, he could have an uphill climb for a starting position in Cleveland.”
A trade like this makes sense for the Chargers because it gives someone a chance to add someone familiar with the system. If they were to complete this trade before the draft, it would give them more flexibility to address other positions earlier in the draft. However, a deal like this makes more sense if it were to happen after the draft and the Chargers weren’t confident in their rookie to start.
The Chargers should strive to find a rookie that they can develop as a starter for four seasons, but if that weren’t possible, getting Zinter for the final two years of his rookie deal is a solid consolation prize.
BFTB community, what do you think of the idea of trading for Zinter? Should the team target other veteran offensive linemen around the league in a trade? Chime off in the comments section below.
