- For the first time since Chris Petersen roamed the sidelines at Husky Stadium, we can say that the Huskies will go as far as their defense will take them (yes, I’m willfully ignoring Jimmy Lake’s tenure). Mike Vorel writes for the Seattle Times that Ryan Walters as the pieces in place in his second season as DC to take a meaningful jump from a defense that already performed well a season ago. As much as Demond Williams and the offense generate headlines, the UW LB corps, better iDL depth, and a secondary full of playmakers could shift the balance of power in Seattle.
- Even on the offensive side of the ball, it might not be the skills positions that make the biggest impact for the Dawgs. Dawgman has a post about OL John Mills and what he can do to get even better in year two. Mills was a freshman standout who showed versatility and a high skill level in ‘25. With a more experienced and talented OL around him, including freshman LT Kodi Greene, the Dawgs look impressive in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
- My adrenaline is pumping for UW’s linebackers this year. I think Jacob Manu and ZRS could be the most entertaining part of the entire team and the best linebacking duo since… Victor and Bierria? Foster and Butler? That part is certainly debatable, as is UW’s LB Mount Rushmore, which was the subject of another Dawgman post. Dave Hoffman is a popular name on the lists. Here’s hoping ZRS is on his way to get his own face etched in that proverbial mountain.
- Away from the gridiron, the Huskies are competing this week in the World U20 Championships. Six UW runners will compete in the events ranging from the 800-meters to the 3,000 meters. Although it is a world championship, UW won’t have far to travel with the events taking place in Eugene.
