2026 NFL training camp news, buzz, fantasy football updates – ESPN Best thing I saw/heard: Quarterback Jalen Hurts is looking like a viable dual threat again. The session I attended was a lighter day, but Hurts executed a designed run multiple times, and he looks as if he’s moving well. A team source agreed, noting Hurts looks “quicker and faster.” Hurts averaged nearly 700 rushing yards per season from 2021 to 2024, but that production dipped
to 421 yards last year. The tush push isn’t going away, with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion recently telling reporters the play is “extremely effective.” But based on early observations, I’m expecting Hurts to get to open space a little more often than last season, when he averaged around 6.5 attempts. Hurts says he feels as if he’s also making strides in Mannion’s passing game. He has doubled down on the details of the under-center offense, particularly the footwork. He says it’s all about sequencing and marrying the feet with the eyes. Mannion noticed that Hurts honed in on this particular area very early in the offseason, allowing the pair to then dig in on the big picture of attacking defenses. “In the end, you’re still playing the position, and you want to play the position the same way — play with your feet, sweep through your reads, know exactly where you’re supposed to go with the ball,” Hurts said. “[Know] where your alerts are, whether it’s down the field or whether it’s a man alert, just try and play fast. But that is more so just understanding what you’re doing, what we’re trying to attack, being on the same page and playing each play.” One observation from people here: The offensive operation is a little cleaner than it was last season. Going up against this stout Eagles defense every day requires that.
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Darius Cooper is undeniable – BGN
DAILY DARIUS COOPER IS AWESOME REMINDER: Cooper was impossible not to notice today; I kept writing his name down over and over. Not a joke: I think he might’ve set a new franchise record for most catches by an Eagles player during team drills in a single practice. It began with back-to-back good receptions in 7-on-7. His success carried over to 11-on-11, where he got open on an out route to beat Riq Woolen. He made an over-the-shoulder grab down the right sideline with both Michael Carter II and Zack Baun trailing. Cooper also made a good adjustment while going to the ground to catch an off-target throw from Hurts late in practice. Put simply: good things happen when the Eagles throw the ball to Cooper. He’s proven himself to be a reliable option who gets open and catches the ball. Based on merit, I don’t know how one can argue he’s not a top three receiver on this roster right now. And if Cooper hasn’t already outshined Dontayvion Wicks, who is currently considered to be WR2, he’s pretty close to doing so. And that’s not a slight to Wicks, who’s looked good. If I’m the Eagles, I wouldn’t play Cooper much — if at all — in the preseason. He should be a real part of the offense this season. Hurts clearly trusts him, as evidenced by the quarterback shouting him out without even being prompted to do so.

Ty Robinson may have lost the fight, but he had a good day otherwise. On a two-play sequence he hit Jake Majors with his patented club move, getting free for a sack. Then he hit Majors with a bull rush that resulted in a pressure. Robinson had a slow start to camp — and it’s not as if Majors is Larry Allen — but he has come on of late.

Cooper keeps making plays. (He could be in this diary on five different occasions. “80” is scattered on different pages in my notes.) Within a span of two minutes, Cooper caught an out route and then made an over-the-shoulder grab down the right sideline. He can run himself open, and he also makes contested catches. I was impressed by his ability to track the ball and make adjustments. There have been a few times when he had to come back for a ball or extend his body for a catch, and he has the control and spatial awareness to do so. I’m running out of ways to say that if you didn’t know the context — he was an undrafted player who had nine total catches last year — you’d think he’s one of the top receivers on this team. It’s why I asked coach Nick Sirianni how a player can “graduate” from a specific role — the “dirty work” receiver, in Cooper’s case — to a prominent role. “You graduate by trust and by consistently doing what you’re supposed to do and say, ‘Man, OK, we look at him as this dirty work guy, but man, he’s had opportunities in training camp to win on third down, and he has done that. Let’s give him those opportunities,” Sirianni said. “ Everything that we do is built on trust, and you get that through practice, you get that through meeting films, you get that through walkthroughs that you consistently do.” If Sirianni wants to see consistency, it’s showing with Cooper.

Elliott has had a tremendous career. We all remember his clutch 42- and 46-yarders in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis. We all remember his dramatic 61-yard game-winner vs. the Giants. And it’s impossible to ignore that he’s 28-for-29 in the postseason, 2nd-best in NFL history. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and was 30-for-32 in 2023. But he just hasn’t been the same guy the last couple years, although he has kicked very well this summer, going 19-for-20 on field goal attempts during team drills. “I’m extremely confident in myself right now,” he aid. “I feel like I’ve had a great offseason, I’m putting together a good camp. I feel like I’m striking the best I have in a while, and every day is a new day. So I’m just trying to build on it.”

He is a likable young man, a hard-working wide receiver, and his goal is to “stack days and keep rising,” and that has been his focus as a Philadelphia Eagle. A young player acquired in an offseason trade with Green Bay, Wicks has stepped in and stepped up early in this 2026 Training Camp, gaining attention last week with his spectacular, leaping, one-handed catch of a Jalen Hurts pass. Suddenly, he’s been a topic of conversation and curiosity for the fans and the dozens of reporters covering the team on a daily basis. “Just taking advantage of when the ball comes my way,” Wicks said. “That’s my job. Find a way to make a play. If I get my hands on the ball, I’m bringing it in.”

Hours before Mohamed Coulibaly was found dead in his Gloucester County home, one of his alleged victims said the 23-year-old entrepreneur had been desperately seeking a $75,000 loan. A recent Barron’s investigation alleged Coulibaly defrauded three former NFL players out of $1 million in an e-commerce scheme involving fake Shopify stores. Now others who invested in the venture or lent Coulibaly money were blowing up his phone. They wanted to know if Jalen Carter and several former members of the Eagles, including Nakobe Dean and Terrell Edmunds, were even real clients, a claim Coulibaly made on promotional materials. Above all, these people wanted their money back.

Sermon will join the Falcons hoping to battle Nate Carter, Cash Jones, and Tyler Goodson for the team’s third back role behind Bijan and Brian Robinson. With Bijan unlikely to play much during preseason and Brian pretty locked in to his role, expect all four backs to get plenty of run in the first week of preseason and (if they all stick around) over the coming weeks as well. He wound up on the Eagles in his second season, spent two years with the Colts, and signed with the Steelers last season and now has 505 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to go with 22 receptions for 138 yards.

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to an extension with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. According to reports it is a 3-year, $105.9M extension. Boom! The Cowboys have been discussing a potential extension for Quinnen from a public perspective since the beginning of training camp. On the team’s first off day following two padded practices, and on the even of their scrimmage against the Los Angeles Rams, this news came in without any warning. It was noted by reports that this deal includes the most guaranteed money ever, $101M, for a defensive tackle. Quinnen is obviously worth it and the Cowboys believed that well before today as they struck a massive deal to trade for him before last year’s deadline in the first place.

Quinn also confirmed that Washington will roll with Brandon Coleman at left tackle, a position the TCU product played during the 2024 season and again when Tunsil got hurt last year. Coleman has 18 left-tackle starts to his credit, but was competing with Chris Paul to be the starting left guard in 2026. Coleman’s a versatile player, and working inside offered his best shot at playing time with Tunsil as an elite, every-down left tackle. Coleman has played a lot outside, so the transition shouldn’t be too tough. Quinn also said that Coleman has improved as a player since his rookie trial by fire at left tackle.

The most common refrain when met with the yearly release of Madden NFL is “it’s the same as last year.” This is never true; there’s always something that EA Sports has worked on to improve the series, but the sentiment is more locked in disappointment that nothing meaningful has changed — at least in the eyes of some gamers. If you were to trot out that “it’s the same” phrase about Madden 27, then you’re either lying or you’ve got an ax to grind, because Madden 27 is one of the most ambitious, innovative, and fun entries in Madden history, and easily the best of this generation.
