Yesterday, Sarah Mattner officially made her debut in the Frauen Bundesliga as a Bayern player, replacing Giulia Gwinn at right back.
When Bayern signed her from St. Pölten, Sarah Mattner was in her clinical rotation. For now, she’s taking a break from her studies so she can focus entirely on Bayern.
Mattner has always wanted to study medicine. That’s why, for three years, she juggled college and a career as a professional soccer player—two pursuits that require a high level of discipline.

Balancing two professions like studies and a football career is easier said than done, so Mattner being able to do that is nothing short of remarkable. What’s more is that Mattner is a forward, yet she replaced Gwinn who is a defender; the versatility helps, I suppose.
