With Jürgen Klopp now taking charge of Germany, the September international break could provide the first real glimpse at what the new era will look like.
Klopp has already been linked with a more youthful approach as he begins looking toward the 2028 European Championship and beyond. That makes the September squad particularly intriguing.
The obvious names will likely remain in the conversation, but which player could come completely out of left field and earn a place in Klopp’s first Germany squad?
There are plenty of candidates who could make a strong case.
Dženan Pejčinović is an especially interesting possibility after Klopp reportedly informed VfB Stuttgart that he intends to call up the 21-year-old striker. Said El Mala and Kenneth Izekor have also been mentioned as young players who could benefit from Klopp’s desire to inject new energy into the national team.
And then there is Lennart Karl.
The Bayern Munich teenager has already made his senior Germany debut, so another call-up would not technically qualify as a first appearance. However, seeing Klopp give him a more prominent role could be one of the most exciting developments of the new era.
The September window will be about more than simply results. It will be about establishing Klopp’s identity and determining which players he believes can form the foundation of Germany’s next generation.
