Patchy Mix just can’t seem to get his shit together.
Once considered one of the top bantamweights in the world, the 32-year-old Brazilian went winless inside the Octagon after crossing over from the ruins of Bellator MMA. Mix was summarily expelled from UFC and landed at RIZIN, only to get trounced in his promotion debut by Japanese upstart Kyoma Akimoto.
It appears things are going from bad to worse.
RIZIN brought him back for a co-main event against Shoko Sato on Aug. 11 in Tokyo, but Mix (20-4) missed
weight by more than six pounds, according to MMA Fighting. Mix is no longer eligible to claim victory regardless of his performance as RIZIN automatically converts victories to No Contests for overweight fighters.
The Mix vs. Sato fight was also demoted from co-main event status.
RIZIN 54 will be headlined by the aforementioned Akimoto, who takes on two-time RIZIN Featherweight Champion Kleber Koike Erbst in the Aug. 11 main event. Elsewhere in the lineup, Mikio Ueda collides with fellow heavyweight hurter King Edokpolo in main card action.
