Veteran NBA center Mason Plumlee has signed a deal with the San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the season, ESPN’s Sham Charania reported on social media.
Mason Plumlee is signing a deal with the San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the season, Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. Plumlee completed his first 10-day contract and now will finish his 13th NBA season in San Antonio.
Plumlee, who turns 36 next week, had signed a 10-day contract with the Spurs on Feb. 17, although he hasn’t
appeared in any games for the franchise yet. The 7-footer was traded by the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder ahead of February’s NBA Trade Deadline, and then OKC waived him.
Plumlee appeared in just 14 games for Charlotte this season, averaging 8.9 minutes, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 points per game. He appeared in 74 games for the Phoenix Suns last season, averaging 4.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 17.6 minutes per game.
Of course, people around these parts are most familiar with Plumdog for his 136 games spent as the Portland Trail Blazers starting center during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
Now, he joins the Western Conference-contending Spurs, who carry a 43-16 record, as added depth behind 7-foot-5 phenom Victor Wembanyama.
