The Los Angeles Queens (2-0) will look to remain the only unbeaten team in the Women’s Pro Baseball League as the second week of action continues with a California showdown against the San Francisco Firebells (1-1) tonight.
The Queens, who are managed by former Rockie Eric Young Sr., have outscored their opponents 22-12 in their first two games. Veteran Meggie Meidlinger, who has played on the United States women’s national baseball team since 2006, will be on the mound for L.A. Meidlinger has made
one appearance this season, pitching two innings in relief and only surrendering one hit and one walk with two strikeouts to earn the win in the 10-8 come-from-behind win against the New York Heights in the WPBL debut on Aug. 1.
Despite a five-run sixth inning, the Firebells weren’t able to come back and lost their first game of the season, 13-8 to the New York Heights on Thursday night. Jua Park will start on the mound for San Francisco. Park threw 0.2 innings against the Heights on Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on three hits with three walks.
This will be the first game between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
