Astros
6, Rangers 3
- What a frustrating loss.
- Starting with the first inning, when Jack Leiter allowed an 0-2 single to Jeremy Pena, walked Yordan Alvarez, and then threw away a little dribbler in front of home plate to allow the first two runs of the game to score.
- Continuing in the fifth inning, when Yainer Diaz started the inning reaching on a throwing error by Josh Smith, then two Astros hit infield grounders that the Rangers couldn’t quite turn a double play on, then someone named Zach Cole — in the game for Alvarez after Alvarez departed with an injury — parked a 1-2 pitch into the right field bleachers, in the very bottom of the same inning where the Rangers had taken the lead in the top of the frame.
- And then continuing in the seventh inning, after the Rangers had the tying run thrown out at home plate to end the top of the inning, when the Astros, with two outs, went double-double-single to add on to their lead.
- Frustrating that errors led to multiple Astros runs.
- Frustrating that the Rangers failed to take advantage of opportunities, leaving two runners on base in the fifth, getting three singles in the seventh but failing to score when Jonah Heim was thrown out by a ton at home, getting a pair of singles and a walk in the ninth but not getting any runs across.
- Sigh.
- Jack Leiter touched 98.6 mph with his fastball, averaging 96.9 mph. Jacob Webb hit 94.0 mph with his fastball. Carl Edwards Jr. maxed out at 95.8 mph with his fastball.
- Michael Helman had a 105.9 mph single. Joc Pederson had a 105.9 mph line out. Wyatt Langford had a 104.7 mph single and a 100.4 mph single. Jonah Heim had a 104.0 mph GIDP and a 101.7 mph line out. Josh Jung had a 103.0 mph GIDP. Josh Smith had a 103.0 mph single. Jake Burger had a 100.7 mph ground out. Adolis Garcia had a 100.5 mph ground out.
- Two more games in Houston. Gotta make them count.
