The first of the World Cup semifinals has been locked in and now it is time to settle the score on the other side of the bracket. Both matches kick off today. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane will take the field against Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in a battle of world-class strikers, before Lionel Messi sees just how many more goals he can score against Granit Xhaka’s Switzerland.
We’re running live match coverage for both matches today here at Bavarian Football Works, so we will have a separate game
thread for each. First up:
- Norway vs. England (5:00 PM EDT)
Yesterday’s results:
- Spain 2-1 Belgium
Predictions
Norway 2-1 England. Going in for an upset, and maximum irrepressible Haaland Haaland to spoil what has been a positive tournament for Thomas Tuchel and England.
And unlike that one guy — see below — we want to see more rowing!

Odds and Ends
You might think this Norway fan is only a pedant about this because rowing involves arm motions and football is a sport about feet, but actually, pedant derives from the Italian pedante, ‘teacher’, and traces its further roots to the Latin paedagogare (a slave who accompanied children to school) rather than pedester (walking; on foot). We digress…
Continuing the LOTR theme…we have some sneak preview footage of the match:
