The Pittsburgh Pirates are starting off the final month of the MLB season by hosting the San Francisco Giants for a three-game set at PNC Park.
The Pirates are in a battle of aces in this first game, as Paul Skenes (9-11, 3.79 ERA) takes the mound. Skenes is coming off a start against the San Diego Padres where he went six innings, giving up three hits and no earned runs in a 1-0 victory at Petco Park. Skenes is looking for his first win since July 19.
Logan Webb (8-8, 3.72 ERA) is getting the ball
for the Giants. He is coming off a start against the Cincinnati Reds on August 26, when he went six innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs as the team lost 10-9 at home. In 24 starts this season with the Giants, Webb has gone at least six innings in all but five. He may not be at his peak, but he is still one of the better pitchers in the league.
While the Pirates are four games under .500 going into September, they still have a chance at a winning record. They are going to sprint to the finish in hopes of getting the best record possible.
